GTR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain likely for rest of week

Periods of heavy rainfall will occur over areas generally northwest of the Natchez Trace tonight and Wednesday. Flooding of streets and low-lying areas will be possible. The main area of concern tonight and Wednesday will be along and north of a line from Bastrop to Grenada. Ponding water and flooding rains will also be possible for many areas west of Interstate 55 during the day Wednesday.

 

Tornado watch for much of northeast Mississippi

A tornado watch is in effect until 12 a.m. Sunday for the following counties in Mississippi: Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Coahoma, Desoto, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Monroe, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, and Yalobusha.

Gusty southerly sustained winds up to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph will continue through early this evening over portions of extreme southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana and northwest Mississippi, but mainly northwest of a Eupora to Madison to Winnsboro, Louisiana line.

Most of Mississippi under Tornado Watch until 4 p.m.

A tornado watch has been issued for the following counties: Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clarke, Clay, Copiah, Covington, Franklin, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Itawamba, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Leake, Lee, Leflore, Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Rankin, Scott, Sharkey, Simpson, Smith, Tishomingo, Warren, Webster, Winston and Yazoo. The watch is in effect until 4 p.m.

NEMiss: Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday morning

Heavy rains may result in flash flooding and river flooding across the Mid-South area through Friday morning. As a result, a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect trhough Friday morning for the following counties: Tippah, Alcorn, Tishomingo, Prentiss, Union, Pontotoc, Lee, Itawamba, Calhoun, Chicasaw, and Monroe. This includes the cities of Corinth, Iuka, Booneville, New Albany, Tupelo, Amory, and Aberdeen.
