Davis, Childers face off in special election

An election Tuesday will decide whether or not a traditionally conservative area of Mississippi will defy that vote and elect a local Democrat to the 1st Congressional District in Washington, D.C.

Booneville Chancery Clerk Travis Childers and Southaven Mayor Greg Davis are vying for the seat once again after neither candidate managed to get more than 50 percent of the vote in the April 22 election.

Negative campaign ads have fueled the debate on local television airwaves, with special interest groups like the National Republican Congressional Committee running ads criticizing Childers' relationship with recently indicted Booneville attorney Joey Langston.

Additionally, Davis has fallen victim to Democrat-funded attack ads citing his misuse of appropriated funds as reason not to support him.
