'Comeback kids' heat up N.H. Presidential race0 Comments

Republican maverick Sen. John McCain rose from the proverbial ashes Tuesday to win the New Hampshire primary, further scrambling the GOP presidential race that has many voters wondering who will get the nomination. Sen. Hillary Clinton, who came in third with last week's Iowa caucus, edged ahead of front-runner Barack Obama to seal her first win of the 2008 election season. The Arizona senator also responded to cable news and voter claims that he was indeed the new "Comeback Kid," a title Bill Clinton gave himself after his 1992 surprise finish. "I'm past the age that I can claim the noun 'kid' no matter what adjective precedes it," McCain said. "But tonight we sure showed them what a comeback looks like." McCain thanked supporters for the victory and told the crowd he expected a win in Michigan. Not such a lofty prediction for someone who, despite falling short of 2004's GOP nomination, handily won Michigan just four years ago. Clinton's camp remained riveted to cable news coverage of the results, with some insiders claiming the New York senator "was preparing for a second-place speech." Then, at the eleventh hour, Clinton pulled ahead of Obama. Contributors cite her recent speeches which sharpened her punch against Obama, depicting a race as a choice between words and action. "I come tonight with a very, very full heart," Clinton said to cheering supporters. "Over the last week I listened to you and in the process, found my own voice." Next on the docket: Michigan primaries, which will be held Jan. 15. Starting Monday, KFFOTV.com will begin hosting a special section devoted solely to election coverage for the 2008 Presidential election. Containing a full archive of primary and caucus results, the site will also feature commentators Richard Gannon and Walt Pearson to break down the individual candidates. Stay tuned to KFFO-TV and KFFOTV.com for continuing election coverage leading up to the 2008 Presidential election.
