Barges tear loose, damaging Natchez casino

Teams of inspectors began checking a Mississippi River bridge and nearby casino barge Tuesday after almost two dozen barges tore loose while being pushed upriver, according to area officials.
No injuries were reported, and the U.S. Highway 84 bridge remained open, but the casino received some damage.
The accident took place Monday after a towboat stalled while heading northbound from the bridge and its group of barges got sideways in the current, breaking loose, County Civil Defense Director Stan Owens said.
