Federal building scare over suspicious package labeled as 'false alarm'

An envelope thought to contain a hazardous substance prompted evacuation of the Dr. A.H. McCoy Federal Building in Jackson Wednesday, but officials now say it was a false alalm.

An employee working on the fifth floor of the building notified officers that her hands began itching Tuesday after she opened an envelope, HAZMAT officials said.

Authorities then located the envelope and began running tests while the 15-story building was evacuated.

The tests came back negative.

The investigation has been turned over to the FBI. KFFO-TV and KFFOTV.com will have future developments as they become available.
